Hurray! That wretched (retching) stomach virus is finally gone from our house! How can I be so certain? Because every last one of us finally succumbed to it. After my son's ride on our own metaphorical vomit comet earlier this week, followed by my daughter's dutiful imitation of her big brother, my husband came home sick from work yesterday. Like the good mama that I am, I managed to hold off my own illness until everyone was in bed last night, giving both Mark and my daughter time to get through the worst of it before I got sick myself.
We are all exhausted, the interior of my car is still covered in vomit, I have watched more children's television than I ever hope to again, but at least we conveniently staggered the sickness and are now all able to drink juice and eat toast.
I have learned three thing from this adventure (as well as my stomach virus this summer):
- These things are ridiculously contagious and no amount of vigorous handwashing and excellent hygiene can keep them from attacking. (I was so optimistic both times!)
- Your body takes a really long time to digest food. Mark and I were amazed to witness the, in some cases, day old contents of everyone's stomachs revisiting us.
- Screw the Shangri-la Diet. If you want to lose a quick five pounds, there's nothing like a stomach virus. ;)
Generally I agree with you about the contagion, but Sam had a nasty bug last week (first time in 25 years I've known him to miss two days of work) and neither of us got it. I did pick up a nasty cold - and some viruses can cause both GI and respiratory infections, don't ask me how - but it's been over a week so I think we're clear of the GI bug. I wish I knew for sure how we avoided it so we could do it again.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a GI bug to make you really appreciate your usually good health.
ReplyDeleteOh man - I'm so sorry you all got it... It sure does take a while to even want to eat solid food again after that. The last time I got something like that, it took me 2 weeks to get back on my regular feed. It sure is an easy way to drop 5 or 6 pounds, but I don't recommend it.

That's the worst! We've been the victims the The Family Flu once and that was enough! Glad you guys are all better now! Even gladder you can't spread your nasty germs through cyberspace. lol
ReplyDeleteOh my Goodness! You have had it rough. Glad it is all over now. Wishing you good healthy for at least a YEAR!!! :)

Glad to see all are recovering. Love the "Vomit Comet" imagery ;) I have been trying to recover from my own personal 'virus' these past few weeks...finding wellness behind my camera lens :) Enjoyed reading your letter to Pat's wife.
ReplyDeleteWhat Melissa said. LOL.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I was afraid you'd get it. At least it's gone now, knock on wood.
And I can vouch for the truth of your second point. Think day-old carrots. Stuck on the bathroom tile. At least the tile was yellow so was in the same color family.
Here's to a better Sunday.
I hope that this bug doesn't get transmitted through the internet!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you're feeling better!
Glad you're all feeling better now :)
ReplyDeleteHi -I'm taking a quick break from tennis to clear out Google Reader since I've not done much blog visiting since the Australian Open started last week. I'm sorry everyone has been sick at your house, but am glad it's run the course and you're all on the mend. One of the good things about being retired is I don't get exposed to as many maladies, so I stay healthier overall. I enjoyed your Haiku from Friday. I did one about Ms. Kitty since I needed to give her "equal time" after writing about Molly the previous Friday. The other was about ... TENNIS! Lotsa amazing 5 set matches this year ... very early in the tournament. Take care and stay well.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
That's what I had ... but without the vomiting part, just the feeling of having to vomit. And then my girl Jay got it, too. She has been SO MISERABLE all weekend. Nothing got done around here. I feel like an utter mess and, yay!, it's Monday already.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got it and it's gone. I think we're in the clear ... not sure, yet.
I'm glad the worst is over for you
ReplyDeleteYuck. My B.I.L. came over when Sara was a baby and gave me and Tony his crud. It was awful. Luckily, Sara didn't catch it.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're on the road to recovery!
