Well, dumping a bottle of Elmer's glue into a fish tank isn't an experiment I would have tried myself, but I did learn a few things from having the kids do it:
- Elmer's glue really is non-toxic.
- Goldfish can swim through gummy water for several days and survive.
- It's really hard to entirely empty a fish tank of water.
I'm happy to report that the fish survived our little Darwinian proving ground, and seem none the worse for wear. With the kids home from school today for President's Day, I wish I could say the same for me!

I would've never thought goldfish could survive that. Good to know (for whatever reason, I don't know - but that will be known when needed).
One more for my list of odd tidbits of information that make me look clever. Thanks!
Have I told you lately that I love you?
LOL - Those must be hardier goldfish than the ones I've "won" at those Carnival booths in the past because I've not had much success trying to keep goldfish alive ever. Perhaps I kept the water too clean? Hehehe ... Stranger things have happened. Thanks for the update. I hope you get some "much needed rest" tomorrow when the kids return to class.
Hugs and blessings,
I'm surprised their insides didn't get stuck.
Right up there in the all time weirdest bits of random information I've ever come across, which means it's stuck in my head forever. (Really useful information disappears as fast as it goes in -or faster.)
Elmer's glue won't stick
Fish gills or guts together
But fish stick in head.
Didnt realise they were so resilient!
i had a japanese fighter fish that wouldn't die. it grew whiter and whiter..... I should have just flushed it. Those fish are stronger than one would think.
I can't believe they survived! I thought goldfish dropped dead at the drop of a hat! Good news though
So glad to hear they are still wigglin' in the water!
P.S. This reminds me of two goldfish that I had as a child. They lived for years and years! Believe it or not...when I moved with my parents, I gave them to my sister who was already married. She kept them for years. Amazing. Wish I could remember how many years exactly.
Last summer, a kid in my writing workshop wrote a story about a 4 year old who dumped blue paint into a fish tank to make the water prettier for the fish. The fish weren't so lucky in the story.
The kid who wrote the tale based it on a true event. So, your fish were lucky
