Interview of Me up at MomLogic!

With David Duchovny's entry into rehab all over the news recently, there has been a growing interest in sex addiction. There's an article on sex addiction up at MomLogic today that includes an interview with me about my husband's addiction. The folks at MomLogic decided to be so super careful with my anonymity and privacy that they changed my pseudonym to Janice! But never fear, it really is me, and the article does link here to A Room of Mama's Own.* Enjoy!

I should add that the article includes a video featuring interviews with two sex addicts. Please note that these men are in active addiction, not in recovery. Addicts and their partners may find this video triggering.

* Update: This has been corrected and I'm now "Mary" there as well.

Thank you so much for your honesty. Your ability to be so real by virtue of your anonymity and pseudonym has given me pause. I may well rethink my approach to my blog so that I can be real without being exposed. I admire you for your courage in your journey.

Your part of the article was great. The video sucked beyond belief. After watching it, you have to wonder what the fuss is because obviously sex addiction isn't too bad. "There's positive and negative."

Without your part the whole thing was pure fluff.

"You can't stop sex addicts from acting out, even if you are as talented and sexy as Halle Berry, as lovely and witty as Tea Leoni, as beautiful and glamorous as Christie Brinkley and as smart and successful as Hillary Clinton. It's not your fault, you're not alone and there are people out there who understand and can help."

I loved that quote. Awesome interview, MPJ. I have to agree with everyone else that the video sucked. Why couldn't they have found some recovering addicts? Those two clowns sounded so douchey.

  4. Mary P Jones (MPJ) says:

Addicts in recovery would have been able to answer the questions about the damage they'd done, which the two guys they interviewed weren't able to do at all. But I'm wondering if it would be harder to get addicts in recovery to agree to be interviewed on camera for the same reason -- because they do recognize the damage they've done and are ashamed of it.

I gave long answers that were substantially edited, but I'm pleased with the way the interview came out overall. The one thing I was sorry to see missing was the advice to partners to get help! (Note to self: next time edit self down.)

Wow … you’re FAMOUS now, right? Can I say I knew you when??? I’m still scrambling to catch up after falling behind (with 26 unread messages from you in my reader & that doesn’t count the posting you’ve done elsewhere) … but I’m hoping now that my best friends have ‘hit the road’ again with their hubbies, I just might have a little more discretionary time for blog visits. Maybe I'll eventually succeed? I'm sure others will benefit from all you share here and there.

Thanks for ‘following’ both of my blogs. I took time to figure out what that means and added the ‘widget’ to my sidebar at Small Reflections. I’ll do it at Sacred Ruminations eventually, but I’m trying to VISIT this morning now that I’ve published Haiku on both blogs. Hope all ‘s well with you and yours. Enjoy your new ‘anonymous celebrity’ ;--)
    Hugs and blessings,

    MPJ,

That was awesome. Thanks for being so brave and so wise for all of us. I have to say though, I was sickened by the general MomLogic site. Mom? Logic? I walked away feeling like that site was pretty anti-women. I'm exhausted with our culture, and their site just depressed me more. Basically, according to them, a woman has no hope of having a happy relationship with any man at any time, ever. Mothering sucks, women hate sex, all men cheat, and so on.

Sorry, I still think you did an awesome thing, and in some ways it's even more important that it's on such a main line, if detestable site.

Glad that you provided some information on this subject that is troubling.
