Haikus for my Daughter

Overcast morning,
taking my daughter to school,
I pull on my coat.
"Here's your purse, Mama."
Her eyes glow with pride to be
handing me my bag.
Wallet, glasses, keys,
pen, old receipts, crumpled bills,
crumbs of ancient snacks.
To her it must seem
like some sacred mystery:
Mama's treasure chest.
Her smile makes me think,
"Why do I carry so much?
What more do I need?"
